Dhammagiri Vipassana Center Igatpuri

Dhammagiri Vipassana international Academy

Dhammagiri is a Vipassana Meditation center located in Igatpuri, Maharashtra, India. The center is situated on a hilltop surrounded by forests and offers a peaceful and serene environment for people to practice meditation and study Buddhism.

The center was established by Vipassana teacher S.N. Goenka and his wife in 1976. The main meditation hall at Dhammagiri can accommodate up to 200 meditators at a time and hosts regular Vipassana meditation courses that range in length from 10 days to three months. In addition to Vipassana courses, the center also offers retreats and workshops focused on other Buddhist practices, such as Metta (loving-kindness) meditation and Dhamma talks on Buddhist teachings.

Dhammagiri has become one of the most popular destinations for Vipassana meditation in India, attracting visitors from all over the world. The center is run entirely on donations, and no fees are charged for any of the courses or retreats offered there. This model is based on the Buddhist tradition of Dana (generosity), which encourages individuals to give freely and support the growth and spread of Buddhist teachings.

The center has a dedicated community of staff and volunteers who work to maintain the facilities and support the students who come to study and practice at Dhammagiri. The center also has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and has implemented a range of initiatives to reduce its environmental impact, such as rainwater harvesting and organic farming.
