Bahishkrit Bharat

Bahishkrit Bharat, also known as “Untouchable India,” was a term used to describe the social and economic status of the Dalit community in India during the pre-independence era. Dalits, who were considered to be at the bottom of the Indian caste system, were subjected to severe social discrimination and economic exploitation.

Bahishkrit Bharat was a movement initiated by social reformers such as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to fight against the discriminatory practices and oppression faced by the Dalit community. The movement aimed to bring about social equality and justice for the Dalits and other marginalized sections of society.

Under the Bahishkrit Bharat movement, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and other Dalit leaders organized various mass movements, protests, and agitations to raise awareness about the issues faced by the Dalit community. The movement also aimed to eradicate caste-based discrimination from Indian society.

As a result of the Bahishkrit Bharat movement and the efforts of social reformers like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Indian constitution abolished untouchability and made provisions for the protection of the rights of Dalits and other marginalized communities. Today, while the social discrimination still exists in many parts of the country, the movement continues to inspire and empower Dalits to fight for their rights and dignity.
